As a child, I had Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, a dangerous heart defect causing rapid heartbeats. In 2019, I was diagnosed with another heart arrhythmia. As my condition persisted into the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to use this time to show appreciation to the medical heroes who tirelessly worked to save me and many others.
Creating Masks for Medics LA was also my chance to serve those of my Hispanic background who were facing high risk. Having spent seven years building my charity, Soaring Samaritans Youth Movement (SSYM), I knew that I had the ideal vehicle to combat the urgent PPE shortages in Los Angeles. Using donations and support from SSYM, I created Masks for Medics LA, ultimately delivering 2,400 masks to hospitals and clinics serving undocumented immigrants.
